From the other side of the world...Meet Gideon!

Gideon Scheepers was practically born with a board strapped on his feet—it just wasn’t always a snowboard!  Growing up in Kommetjie, South Africa, there was a lot more sand than snow, and he began surfing at the age of five.   As he got older, he added sandboarding and kite surfing to his talents.  But he always dreamed of coming to America—fortunately, when he came to New York, he found that his skills on a surfboard translated to a snowboard!

Gideon has been an instructor with Hunter Mountain for three years now.  He gets a lot of satisfaction from passing on his knowledge to others and seeing it work for them, but says that ultimately,

“The only person who can teach you how to snowboard is yourself—we just give you advice.”

Some of the advice that Gideon’s found works well is relating snowboarding to something people are familiar with, such as driving a car.  Gideon’s advice to people new to the sport is just to get out there and enjoy it,

“If you think it’s difficult, it becomes difficult.”

If you’d like to learn from Gideon, just call our Learning Center at 1-888-HUNTERMT, extension 328, and they’ll be happy to set up a private lesson for you!
